Did y’all know that Grenache was brought to California in 1860, only 14 years after California was even California? At one point it was the second-most planted variety in California, and for good reason. This variety is hardy, prolific and loves California sunshine! Can you see where we’re going with this? A match made in heaven, folks.
Originally planted in the 1920s, Venturi vineyard rests at about 700 feet elevation in Calpella, CA. Larry, the third generation of Tuscanian-descended grape growers in California, farms the head trained vines organically and sans irrigation. The Grenache here is Clone A, born of Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape by way of Tablas Creek Vineyard. We’re truly blessed to be able to work with this family again on the Heirloom, a newish wine for us that has quickly become a staple in the Guthrie Family Wines lineup.
Turn on, tune in, and drop out. That's how this love child of a wine makes us feel. We love that our Grenache marries the juicy fruity gooey-ness of carbonic maceration with the classic bitter cherry / bouquet garni of traditional expressions. Throw in some coriander, blood orange, sideshow cotton candy and voila, You have a banger!
Always (and only) minimal Sulfites added.
