Are we seat dancing while we’re tasting this and writing a tech sheet that will be a drop in the bucket compared to the impact that is Electric Syrah? Yup. If our carbonic Carignan is “Here Comes the Sun”, then this Syrah is “Moonage Daydream”. Or maybe it’s “Let’s Spend the Night Together”... Either way, it should be played loud. This 100% whole cluster Syrah comes from Jemrose vineyard at the bottom of Bennett Valley, just before you come up Sonoma Mountain. The site is in such a chilly pocket we sometimes need jackets on summer visits. Individual enzymatic fermentation occurs inside every single berry, which is kept whole cluster inside flex eggs. After two weeks of being sealed and foot stomped in the egg, we then press to neutral French barrels. Once the wine is pressed it goes through traditional fermentation of the sugars via ambient yeast. Every year we find the one wine that tastes the most like Grape Hubba Bubba, and this year Electric wins. In true Syrah fashion, there’s a bucket o’ berries and pomegranates first and foremost followed by white pepper. The carbonicness turns a classically structured, powerful red into a bottle just soft enough to be served in the summer with grilled anything. Drink now or hold through 2030, preferably at cellar temp.
Always minimal Sulfites added.
