We speak quite a lot about old world and new world wines. Technological advances, experimentation, and wildfires, versus tradition, history, and hail. Which is better? Can you tell the difference? Well our little Chateau baby properly blurs the line between the two. An ode to the luscious and savory wines of the Côtes du Rhône with all the grown up fruit punch, California chaparral, and lunchbox GushersTM of the new. Huzzah! A miracle!
With this new release, we can boast that the barrel aging program has gone from oldish barrels to straight up AARP old fogies. The neutrality of the wood used creates an aerobic environment for our sweet little Mourvedre/Grenache/Syrah baby without imparting any of the sweet baking spice flavor that newer oak can leave behind. We get life/breath/oxygen without cinnamon/cardamom/clove.
Similarly to last year, the workhorse of this blend is Mourvedre accompanied by her backup dancers Grenache and Syrah. Upon sniff test, you’re immediately met with GUSHERSTM. The candy, surely, but also the gushing fruit quality of berry compote along with sweet orange peel and fresh raspberry. When it comes to the candy I believe we’re in the Fruitomic Punch and Double Dare Berry end of the spectrum, no? We’re suckers for a good fruity gush. Combine all these juicy fruits with the savory herbaceous quality naturally inherent of Rhone reds and boy oh boy do we have something to write home about.
