An ode to our founding Rhone forefathers, this blend is inspired by the luscious and savory wines of the Côtes du Rhône. Mourvedre lends deep richness and tannin structure, Grenache expresses all things lithe and bright, while the Syrah rounds the gang out with a savory backbone. The majority of the fruit comes from Juliana Vineyard in Pope Valley. We like this site a whole bunch because of the huge diurnal shifts we experience during the growing season, and because of Pope Valley’s sandy Rutherford alluvial fan. What sets our GSM apart is our sparing use of newer oak and earlier pick dates. We used a small amount of two year old barrels, keeping the remainder very neutral, to aid in weight and texture, while still letting the bright, fresh fruit qualities be the main focus. Some years we ferment the three varieties separately and sometimes we snuggle them up like bugs in a rug. In 2017 we did a co-ferment of the Mourvedre and Grenache in stainless steel, open top fermenters. Want to taste the rainbow? This blend takes you from tart pomegranates to black olives. From sour cherries to a new pair of boots. From ripe late summer blackberries to charcuterie! With its powerful structure from the Mourvedre and Syrah, we recommend pairing this bad boy with a bit of protein. Drink now through 2030 at cellar temp.
Always minimal Sulfites added.
